Gameplay
Core loop
- Get a license. Buy one at City Hall ($2,500 default) — sets the
fishingmetadata flag in QBX. - Buy starter gear at the main fishing vendor: bamboo rod, basic reel, mono line, worms. Equipment ships with built-in durability.
- Pick a spot. Each location in
Config.Locationshas a level requirement and a water type (freshwater / saltwater / brackish), and may exposeshallow, deep, orabysszones. - Cast. Use the equipped rod item near water. Bite time depends on bait quality, location, depth, time of day, and skill ranks.
- Reel. A rarity-scaled minigame triggers (timing bar, QTE, circle, or balance). Tension builds while reeling — keep it under the snap threshold.
- Sell or stash. Sell at the fish market for cash + XP, or stash in a tackle box for later. Bulk-sell tiers (10 / 25 / 50 / 100 fish) award percentage bonuses.
- Open the journal. Use the
fishing_journalitem to view stats, encyclopedia, achievements, challenges, leaderboards, and skill tree.
Every catch is server-authoritative. Fish species, weight, trophy status, time-of-day modifier, depth zone, and minigame timing are all decided and stored server-side before the client minigame begins — the client only reports completion.
Equipment progression
| Tier | Rods | Reels | Lines | Tackle Boxes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | Bamboo | Basic | Mono | Basic (10 slots) |
| Mid | Fiberglass / Graphite | Spinning / Baitcaster | Braided / Fluoro | Standard / Large |
| End | Carbon / Titanium | Fly / Pro | Steel | Professional (50 slots) |
Baits (16) and lures (14) span the same range — early baits like worms and crickets bite freshwater commons, while ballyhoo, premium live bait, and bloody chum target saltwater epics and legendaries.
Rods and lures degrade with use. Repair at the main hub vendor — cost scales with durability lost (Config.Equipment.repairCostPerPoint, default $5/point). Higher-rarity catches accelerate wear (3× durability loss on legendaries vs. commons).
Levels, skills, and prestige
- Level 1–50, ~34,500 XP per cycle. Each level grants 1 skill point.
- Skill tree unlocks in tiers at levels 1, 10, 25, 40. Skills cover catch rate by rarity, weight bonus, durability loss, repair cost, bulk-sell bonus, double-catch chance, minigame skip chance, and more.
- Skill respec is available at the main vendor — base $5,000 + $100 per level.
- Prestige at level 50 resets your level back to 1 and grants:
- +10% XP and +10% rare-fish chance per prestige tier
- 5 bonus starting skill points per tier
- A permanent named perk per tier (e.g. Veteran Fisher, Deep Pockets, Master Baiter, Legendary Master)
- Max prestige is P10 — total grind ~379,500 XP / ~21 hours at 4 fish/min.
Achievements, challenges, and titles
- Daily challenges — 3 per day, reset at server midnight. Money + XP rewards.
- Weekly challenges — 2 per week, reset Monday at midnight. Larger rewards.
- Both are auto-generated from templates in
challenges.luaand scaled to player level (2% harder, 3% better reward per level by default). - Achievements grant permanent titles that display on the journal and leaderboards.
- Weekly leaderboard champions also earn titles: Master Angler (1st), Expert Angler (2nd), Skilled Angler (3rd), plus an XP bonus.
Locations and depth zones
Every location can expose up to four depth zones:
- Shore — accessible from the bank, no boat required
- Shallow — short cast from a boat
- Deep — requires a deep-water-capable boat (Speeder+, level 15+)
- Abyss — requires the Marquis Yacht (level 30+) and an anchored boat
Anchor first before fishing in deep / abyss water — Config.Boats.anchor.requiredForDeepFishing is true by default and the cast will be blocked otherwise.
Boats
Rentals at three default locations on the western, eastern, and northern coasts. Pay rental + deposit; deposit returns when the boat is returned undamaged. Boats persist across rented sessions and tracked per-player in medit8z_fishing_boat_rentals.
| Boat | Rental | Deposit | Min Level | Deep | Abyss |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dinghy | $100 | $500 | 1 | — | — |
| Speeder | $250 | $1,500 | 15 | yes | — |
| Marquis Yacht | $500 | $5,000 | 30 | yes | yes |
Commands and keybinds
The script is item-driven — there are no admin or player slash-commands by default. All gameplay is triggered via:
- Use a fishing rod — start fishing at the nearest valid spot
- Use the fishing journal — open the full NUI (stats, encyclopedia, skills, leaderboards, challenges)
- Use a tackle box — open its stash (whitelisted to fishing items only)
- Target the vendor ped (ox_target) — buy / sell / repair / upgrade
Tips and edge cases
- You cannot carry more than 5 fish without a tackle box (
maxFishWithoutTackleBox). Carry one or sell often. - Trophy fish (90%+ max weight) award bonus achievement progress and are tracked on the leaderboard.
- Dynamic pricing is server-wide — if everyone is selling salmon, salmon prices drop until volume slows. Plan rotations.
- Time of day matters: dawn and dusk are 20% more active; night is 20% less active (except for nocturnal species defined per fish).
- Bait depletes per cast. Lures degrade per use (5 durability/use default). Stock up before long sessions.
- Tackle boxes are per-instance stashes — each tackle box item has its own inventory; whitelist enforced.
